Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? All students should be required to study art and music in secondary school.
Use specific reasons to support your answer.
After all, art teaches us about the world around us, and makes us appreciate its beauty. It helps us develop our creative minds, and helps us connect with the emotions of other people. Therefore, art should be included in our current school system.
I don’t think that all students are necessarily required to study music and art in secondary school. However, I believe that most students should be required to study both. The reasons given for this subject’s inclusion in our society are convincing.
The first reason given for why all students should be required to study art is that art teaches us about the world around us. This statement hints at the idea that art, like science, informs us about the true nature of things. While it is true to a certain extent, art cannot teach us everything there is to know about any subject. For instance, art cannot teach us about geology, biology, or physics. However, art can teach us something about history. For instance, art can show us how humans or societies evolved over time, and it can also tell us how the places we live in are shaped. The works of artists in the past show us what life was like in different eras, and sometimes even how people were influenced or affected by their environments.
In addition to learning about history, art teaches us about the emotions of other people. Art has the ability to evoke a powerful emotional response, and if students are taught to use it effectively, they can learn how to better communicate with their peers, families, and coworkers. This skill will serve them well throughout their lives, especially when dealing with interpersonal problems. By learning how to express emotions, students can improve their relationships with others, and also better understand others’ emotions. After all, art is a form of communication, and learning how to communicate well can be just as important as learning about history or science.
Aside from studying art, art can also be enjoyed, and this is something that most people have an appreciation for. According to different surveys, people frequently profess their love for art, and it’s also not uncommon for people to enjoy looking at or listening to art. These activities can reduce stress, and improve moods, which is beneficial for students, especially those who are stressed about their upcoming exams.
While art can be enjoyable, it can also be quite taxing. Art teachers must teach their students how to develop artistic skills, and this can be quite challenging. For example, art students often need to learn how to paint or draw, and this requires a lot of practice, as well as a lot of patience. Even the greatest artists in the world had to start somewhere, and it could take years before they were able to master their skills. Because of this, art requires a lot of dedication and hard work, and this is probably why most people, especially students, have to work hard at art, and this is why they should be required to do so.
