Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Businesses should do anything they can to make a profit.

Use specific reasons and examples to support your position.

Businesses should always do whatever it takes to make a profit. Profit is the only reason businesses exist and therefore companies should do anything they can to make a profit. I agree with the statement, and I have several reasons to support my position.

First, profit is the only reason businesses exist, as businesses are only sustained and thrive because they make a profit. Profit, of course, is not the sole reason for the existence of businesses, but it is by far the most important one. Profits are how businesses survive, and without them, they are nothing more than an idea on paper. Profit is the measure of how someone, somewhere, is benefiting from the business. Profit is necessary because, without it, there would be nothing to benefit. Profits are a form of compensation for the time and effort a business invests in the production of goods and services. Without a profit, a business cannot sustain itself, and, therefore, would have to shut down. Profits are earned by selling goods and services for a higher amount than what it costs to produce them. Therefore, it is unreasonable to even consider a business that does not make a profit, since there is no point in maintaining it. All businesses should do whatever they can to make a profit, because without a profit, they cannot survive.

Second, businesses should do whatever they can to make a profit, because companies do not simply exist to make a profit, but exist to maximize profits. Profits are the measure of how successful a business is at doing what it set out to do. Profits are the result of maximized sales, minimized costs, increased efficiency, and reduced waste. Without profits, a business cannot maximize these metrics, and, therefore, cannot maximize its profits. Profit is a reward for a business’s hard work. Profits are earned by investing time and money into developing its products, services, and brand image. Profits are hardly a reward for the time and effort of employees, since most of a business’s employees are salaried and do not receive a fair share of any profits generated. Profits are for those who work in the business, and they should do whatever they can to maximize them, especially considering that profits are the sole reason that businesses exist in the first place.

Profit is the only reason businesses exist. Profits are a measure of how successful a business is at doing what it set out to do. Profits are the reward for the time and effort that businesses invest into producing goods and services. Profits are profit regardless of the method by which they are earned. Businesses should do whatever they can to make a profit, because without profits, there would be no reason for a business to exist.
