Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? One should never judge a person by external appearances.

Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

Yes, appearances can be deceiving, but in most cases, they are simply deceiving. While it may be tempting to judge a book by its cover, this is never a good thing to do.

Many believe that appearance is the sole determining factor of a person’s character, but is this always the case? The truth is that appearances can be deceiving, but in many cases, they are simply deceiving. For example, one should never judge a person by his or her race. An individual’s race is a biological fact, and anyone’s race cannot be changed. Given that, it is impossible to judge a person solely on the basis of their race, and to do so would be illogical and bigoted. While skin pigmentation and facial features are clearly evident externally, there are more tangible traits that reveal a person’s character, such as their level of intelligence, desire to succeed, and outlook on life. Therefore, judging someone solely by their race is irrational and unfair.

Recently, a chocolate candy went viral on social media. It was shaped like a smiling white child, which was adorned with bright rainbow colors. The story behind the candy was that its creator, Barry Callebaut, was outraged by the violence and discrimination against people of color. He designed this candy to symbolize the children and people of color who have been killed due to racism. However, the candy is deadly. While it would no doubt be impressive to have such a colorful confection as a decoration, it is full of enough toxins to kill a small child. Therefore, it is a terrible idea to judge a person by his or her appearance. Although appearances can be deceiving, it makes more sense to judge a person’s character based on the traits that are visible on his or her exterior.
