In the future, students may have the choice of studying at home by using technology such as computers or television or of studying at traditional schools. Which would you prefer?

Use reasons and specific details to explain your choice.

I believe that in the future, students should have a choice in how they study. While many believe that using computers or television would be more beneficial, I believe that attending traditional schools would be best because not only would students be able to learn in a formal setting, but they would have an immediate support system that could prove beneficial in times of need.

The benefits of studying in a traditional school setting are many. First, students have the opportunity to interact with peers and teachers in a traditional setting. This interaction provides immediate feedback that would help students in their study and in their general development. Students could learn from and help each other, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds. Traditional schools also benefit students by providing them with mentors, both young and old, who can help them with personal problems, such as self-esteem or dealing with stress. The structured environment of a traditional school provides students with a schedule that helps them manage their time, which they would otherwise lose due to distractions such as the Internet or television. Finally, most traditional schools offer students access to special study aids, such as librarians who can provide assistance when it comes to research. Computers and television are very powerful learning tools, but they can also be very distracting. Students can easily wander away, or they may simply forget what they learned. Therefore, I believe that students should have the opportunity to attend a traditional school in order to gain the benefits that a traditional setting can provide.

The benefits of studying at home are also numerous. Students are often required to have access to the Internet in order to do research or to find online coursework to complete their high school education. Because of this, many students already have access to computers. Many families, especially affluent ones, also have televisions. This access provides students with many learning opportunities, such as being able to watch documentaries that highlight different historical periods or cultures. The wide range of educational resources available to students via the Internet and television have made it possible for students to obtain knowledge from sources that have never before been accessible to them. This has, in turn, encouraged students to learn more about the world that surrounds them. I believe that students should be given the opportunity to use these resources, but they should not rely solely on them. Because computers can be extremely distracting and television is passive, students must learn how to manage themselves when studying at home.

The choice between attending a traditional school or studying at home depends on many factors, such as a student’s interests or preferences. Some students may prefer the social environment of a traditional school. Others may prefer the independence that studying at home can provide. Most students, however, should be able to benefit from both environments. Therefore, I believe that students should have the choice and should attend a traditional school.
