Some people enjoy change, and they look forward to new experiences. Others like their lives to stay the same, and they do not change their usual habits. Compare these two approaches to life.

Which approach do you prefer? Explain why.

Change is always good; it allows for new experiences and possibilities. However, changing one’s routine can be tedious, distractive, and frustrating. The routine approach is often easier and more comfortable.

When one begins to change one’s lifestyle, whether it be habits, diet, or job, the process can be quite daunting. One will often encounter a great deal of resistance from other people. But change is necessary if one wishes to succeed in life. A rigid adherence to one’s routine is a recipe for failure and stagnation. The way one approaches change is vastly important. Many people prefer change, while others value the familiarity of their daily routines, and it’s this dichotomy that is the focus of this comparison.

I believe that change is good, especially when it leads to new experiences and possibilities. Change is all around us. If we don’t like it, we can usually find a way to avoid it, or forcibly impose it on ourselves. However, change can be painful and is a major obstacle in reaching our goals. A routine approach, on the other hand, is comforting and familiar. It can provide a safety net in times of stress and confusion, and when one needs to relax, there is little more comforting than returning to the same few places or people that have been constant companions for years. Change can be liberating, but it comes with its share of stress and frustration. If we are not careful, the stresses of change can lead us to abandon new endeavors altogether.

The most common danger of the routine approach is that it becomes permanent, and, as such, the rut becomes deeper and deeper. One does not grow as a person when living a monotonous life. To become truly successful, one must be willing to change one’s circumstances, and to do so, one must be willing to take some risks and overcome the challenges that change can bring. We gain nothing by clinging to the familiar, and much is lost if we do not strive for new experiences. Thus, the transition from one routine to another is a perilous one, and requires both flexibility and fortitude.

The decision to change one’s routine is not easy. It requires a leap of faith, and the willingness to give up not only one’s familiar surroundings but also the comfort of one’s old lifestyle. But, if handled properly, such a change can lead to a new and more exciting future.
